Adoption is something that has been on our hearts for almost a decade now. Wait, I know what you are thinking…”why does a family with four biological kids want to start adopting an orphan from Ethiopia?” First, our family believes that children are a gift from the Lord. Second, we desire to carry out Jesus’ words to care the orphan. Of course there are many ways to care for orphans, but God has prepared our hearts and our home to find a place for someone who does not have a home of their own.</span><br />
<br style="font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;" />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">Let me tell you a little about our process to this point. As you may be aware, we live overseas and this only complicates international adoption. We are using an American adoption agency, and an international (but US certified) HomeStudy agency. It has been a dream to adopt for many years. Every night we are led to pray for our future son that is to live with us. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">God has given us so many blessings throughout the years so we have faith that He will provide in this endeavor as well. We are aware that the running cost of international adoption is $30,000. However, we serve a God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills and $30,000 is not even an afterthought to Him. <strong>If you would like to join us in this exciting adventure, we ask two things of you</strong>. 1. First and foremost, we plead for your prayers. Pray that God would continue preparing our hearts for our future son; and also that He would begin preparing our son for us. 2. We ask that you would <strong>consider joining us in bringing our son home</strong>. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">If the Lord leads you to join us financially please consider giving one of two ways. <b>The first way is to click on our PayPal "Donate" button on the right side of the page. </b> You may use any major credit or debit card. The second way to join us financially is to send a check to one of our partnering churches: Providence Bible Fellowship. <b>Make the check out to Providence Bible Fellowship, and simply write <i>"Adoption"</i> in the memo line of the check</b> and our beloved friends will make sure it gets to us for our son. The church address is:</span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Hudson Carmichael<br />
We pray you desire to live a crucified life, doing humble things joyfully, that hardness would draw you and not repel you, that you would love to read and learn from scriptures and giants of the faith, that you would love learning languages for the sake of reaching the lost, that you would have experiences that unite you with Christ, that the cross would always be your motivation, attraction and basis for decision making; that you would have patience that cannot be tired out, love that loves in very deed, unto death. That you would have a willingness to deny self, personal taste and comfort so that others might receive the gospel, that you would have a heart that desires to know Jesus and make Him known among the nations, that you would have a passion for diversity and desire to go where no one else wants to go and do what no one else wants to do so that the Lost may be found and light might shine in darkness. We pray you will be a warrior on the Lord's battlefield, a soldier that does not ask for or expect ease. That the great need and a deep sense of responsibility would burn as a steady fire in your soul that neither poor health, lack of encouragement, nor any other difficulty could lessen your sense of call to bring Christ to the perishing millions. That you would be the first wherever there is a sacrifice to be made, a self-denial to be practiced or an impetus to be given. That you would serve the Lord as He deserves, give and not count the cost; fight and not heed the wounds; toil and not seek for rest; labor and not ask for any reward save that of knowing that you do the Lord's will. We pray you would live a crucified live, to walk the road of suffering like Jesus with joy; death to self that life may abound. May you pour your life out for others my sweet son! We can't wait to see what Jesus does with you!<br />

Hudson loves adoption and prays everyday that God will send an orphan boy to come live in his room. So I made a bunch of monsters to go in our adopt a monster basket. Hudson prays everyday for a little boy named Milton Dennis who lives in Uganda at <a href="http://www.okoarefuge.org/" target="_blank">Okoa Refuge</a>. I thought it would be neat to have all the kids pick an orphan from <a href="http://www.okoarefuge.org/category/okoa-babies/" target="_blank">Okoa</a> and name their monster after them so they would remember to pray for them everyday. We then made adoption certificates and put the picture of the orphan they are praying for on the back.<br />

When you live overseas there are improvises you have to make because of things you can't find..... like green sugar covered candies that don't cost a fortune....so we used black beans in the centerpiece instead.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXHoo0_l0bNnVBeIQhbuYLmar0sgf-dIBFjFk-7ngYzaqcow9FFC7NeYq_OWBAeEv7JgVXdVLoq3zM41IOqffCsta6uubE7jAQjDNsmp88rOuo9Xmp1YetHJsTw15GvFyIbADYNybj-x0/s1600/IMG_2427.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXHoo0_l0bNnVBeIQhbuYLmar0sgf-dIBFjFk-7ngYzaqcow9FFC7NeYq_OWBAeEv7JgVXdVLoq3zM41IOqffCsta6uubE7jAQjDNsmp88rOuo9Xmp1YetHJsTw15GvFyIbADYNybj-x0/s320/IMG_2427.jpg" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Another improvise was we didn't have black paint so we used crayons and the girls colored in the chevron for our art display. I started with black sharpie and realized that would take too long and my sharpie wouldn't last that long, plus i wouldn't trust little girls with a permanent marker. Nevertheless we liked how it turned out and is fun that the girls got to help contribute. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This year our traditional advent calendar started to fall apart, so until I get a sewing machine to fix it, we had to come up with a back up plan. Enter our Giving tree. Here we are hanging ornaments of pictures that represent the stories throughout scripture that point to the promises of the one to come...Emmanuel, God with us. We also will be hanging ornaments on which we write the gifts we have been given by God that we are thankful for. We have been abundantly blessed and we want to give praise to Jesus this season for all that He has done in us, for us, through us. </div>

We hope your Christmas is filled with reflections on the birth of a babe who came to take away the sins of the world! With hands that spread His love around to others, and hearts that never forget the sacrifice He made so that all may know Him! Jesus truly is the reason for this Season! What gifts will you be giving to Jesus this year? We would love to hear your ideas as we look for more ways to give to Him instead of ourselves. </div>

Some of our thoughts: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://secure1.heifer.org/gift-catalog" target="_blank">Heifer International</a> - giving bees so an impoverished family can be trained in a skill to make an income. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Give to <a href="http://www.okoarefuge.org/fresh-water-for-the-world" target="_blank">Okoa Refuge</a> where you can feed the hungry in Uganda, supply clean water, sponsor a child...oh so many options, check it out!!!</div>

<br />
We were able to spend a few days of vacation hanging out with some sweet friends and during that time, my friend Lisa told me of this idea for a Christmas wreath. I have had a time trying to make a wreath this year since I can't find a straw wreath to start from. I attempted rolling rags and tying them together to wrap in yarn for my desired yarn wreath but that was a FAIL although a creative idea if it would have worked. So while with our friends we traced all the kiddos hands (all six kids) and this wreath is the result of two families who love and serve Jesus and want all the world to know Him too! <br />
<br />
Merry Christmas!!!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
While our friends were out with Mr. Fabulous looking for a home, Shannon and I supervised the kids on this craft. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 1: Give each child orange paper, three paintbrushes and yellow, red and brown paint</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 2: Make sure they only paint the paper :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 3: Let it dry</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 4. Cut the paper into leave shapes</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 5: Glue leave shapes in a circle on a piece of construction paper</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 6. Cut a circle out of the middle of the construction paper and tie it on your door with string.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So I believe I found this tutorial on the Craftberry Bush blog via The Crafty Cow blog...check it out for pictures on how to cut your 2 liter bottle to make the owl. Once I cut the bottle, I taped it together with clear tape then I drew lines on the owl for the different parts then told my kids which part to paint what color, for the smaller sections I helped hold their hand. As you can see Tarzan has scratched off some of the paint since they have been put on display. Nevertheless it was a fun recycled craft for this bird-loving family!Queen Motherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17248581958484762442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3201261110048399538.post-38319813360694974362011-11-05T12:38:00.000+02:002011-11-05T14:04:22.493+02:00Painting pumpkins with Kids<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Step 1. Lay down a cloth you can get paint on</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 2. wash and dry pumpkins</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 3. Pick three different colors of paint and put on a plate (we chose turquoise, brown and cream)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 4. Hand each child a paint brush and let them have at it</div>

We enjoyed this activity with our friends who just moved to our city. After our pumpkins dried we decorated the house with them. The one in the picture above is Tarzan's pumpkin - didn't he do a great job?!</div>

For the above pictures I got three different acrylic paints that I liked and mixed a little glaze in with the color and painted the pumpkins. Before they dried I sprinkled a little gold glitter on them to add some shimmer then let them dry. I coiled some brown pipe cleaners and cut out and laminated leafs for extra decoration then placed them about the house.<br />

One squatty potty turned into a Laundry room thanks to a friends suggestion! The washer and dryer sit on top of the squatty. I hung a shower rod across the room to hang clothes that need to be ironed up. Our our cleaning supplies can be shut away. I am thankful.<br />

This is our kitchen and the island we had built. We are thrilled to have the extra counter and storage space. We will have bar height chairs coming for informal dining, snack space, play-doh space, helping mom cook etc.... In working with the builders we learned many lessons on communicating in another language and culture. I had to lay aside my american mentality a ton and probably should have more. I think my old kitchen used to be the size of the island itself....thankful for more work space! Sure makes hosting the oodles of people that pass through our house easier. I even had space to make a drawer just for tea items :) so now when you visit my house you can enjoy a delightful cup of tea made to order! See doesn't that make you want to hop a plane over?! We'll be waiting! </div>

As everything in our house, our classroom is still a work in progress but I am so blessed and so thankful to have a place I can make into our center for learning. I am a scatterbrain so an organized environment is vital for me to function and stay on task. This room is a gift from God to us...mostly a gift to me...it is my favorite room in the house.</div>

Can you believe I found this english continent rug in the middle of Asia?! I couldn't and it was a steal of a deal.... just another gift from God to me. The kids hop from continent to continent everyday as I sing the Continent song that my friend Kari taught me. We also have calendar time and reading time on this rug. In the back right corner we have our language development shelves. We are learning to read and write right now. On the left edge of the screen is the shelf with our geometric solids, metal insets for writing preparation, our world puzzles, knobless cylinders, peg puzzles, pink tower, brown stairs and geometric shapes. </div>

In the back left corner is our art shelf with free reign to creating! I have quite a few artists on my hands who can turn out a number of masterpieces and this is only the beginning.... It appears that the creative genes from Nanny continue to be passed along. <br />

I saw this little nook and thought it would be perfect for a mirror and ballet bar where dress ups can hang, dancing can happen and imaginations can run wild..... (mirror to come later - thankful we found a shower rod).<br />

I still need to complete the middle picture but instead of drilling a bunch of holes in the wall to rehang the letters to their names, we opted for a few pictures I made with their first Letter.... we are learning our alphabet and sounds right now in preparation for reading so having their letter on the wall thrills them.<br />

This last pic is of Hudson and his new friend who watches him while we have language class in the other room. This particular day he got to watch a diego show as his first week he was a little clingy adjusting to a new friend and his sisters not being around. He has a totally different personality when his sisters are gone, he is calm, quiet, doesn't get into mischief...it is so funny to watch the transformation once his sisters come home. We are thankful for our new friend and the blessing she is to our family!<br />
<br />
The girls room to come tomorrow!<br />

Any thoughts are welcome...more homeschool happenings, more from our kitchen, more from everyday life... Some of you have asked for pictures of our new place so I will be uploading those one room at a time, one day at a time over this coming week.<br />

Feel free to share your lesson plans with me!Queen Motherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17248581958484762442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3201261110048399538.post-80391255241898056442011-07-01T14:35:00.000+03:002011-08-24T16:21:06.835+03:00God's WorldToday was a good day in our nest. Queen mother was up early and that means our schedule happened today!<br />
- Breakfast and Devotions<br />
- Clear the Table, Brush teeth, get dressed, do "Practical Life" chores.<br />
- Calendar Time - Learned a smidgen about the Declaration of Independence and the 4th of July<br />
- Language Development:<br />
- S,M,A,T and sorted pictures and objects according to the various sounds.<br />
- Then we read books with topics on those letters: Snow Leopard, Mammals, Animal<br />
Discovery and a book of Tongue Twisters.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR4C31o6AIAYTmHMHMu297CqpDVtKYMfIHmeP7dVielkZs6V36jr2TAUDCB_uBQWQVMaINMjUFXCpD_X3e-kn8zp59kM2AFc6m2kbVcp5cMkbP4620aRdvf-6NzJ7oaJOxOJdGAaoQo-w/s1600/IMG_8792.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR4C31o6AIAYTmHMHMu297CqpDVtKYMfIHmeP7dVielkZs6V36jr2TAUDCB_uBQWQVMaINMjUFXCpD_X3e-kn8zp59kM2AFc6m2kbVcp5cMkbP4620aRdvf-6NzJ7oaJOxOJdGAaoQo-w/s320/IMG_8792.jpg" width="213" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> - the first volume video of "Your Baby Can Read" video by Robert Titzer, reviewed the </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> flashcards and read the books for that Level. This was a gift from our Uncle Kicker! (a </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> brilliant mind investing in the minds of my youngins = priceless) We love you Uncle </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> Kicker!!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> - Melissa & Doug See and Spell - the girls loved spelling out words on their own</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> - Creative Writing (They make up the story and I write it down since they can't write much yet) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> the story gets reviewed and expanded the next day. (this was a new idea thanks to Samara). </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">- During the girls See & Spell Time Hudson worked on colors, counting, sorting, fine motor skills, and object permanence with Queen mother. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">- Lunch</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">- Then we worked on learning our second language before nap-time.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">There is still more we didn't get covered in our school day today due to me having to learn to juggle having an almost 2 year old in the classroom who doesn't have the attention span of his sisters. This is a work in progress and I welcome suggestions from the peanut gallery if you are juggling different young ages of kids 4 and under and have some tips. Blogging about what were doing is accountability and motivation for me to keep going and for now some sort of record/"evidence" of what we have done. </div>Queen Motherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17248581958484762442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3201261110048399538.post-3511123428747977152011-07-01T14:14:00.000+03:002011-08-24T16:22:28.582+03:00Training in GodlinessThis mornings devotions for my kids entailed:<br />
Big Thoughts For Little Thinkers: The Trinity by Joey Allen<br />

Memory Verse: Isaiah 26:4 "Trust in the Lord forever; for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength."<br />
<br />
Well that is a glimpse of my little peoples time in the Word this morning.... next post, a look at God's World!Queen Motherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17248581958484762442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3201261110048399538.post-83080977494390424472011-07-01T07:14:00.000+03:002011-07-01T07:14:39.577+03:00Learning to danceLiving in another culture is like learning a new dance....<br />
....the notes are different...not wrong, just different. Living in another culture really is an art like dancing, you have to learn the moves, the notes, the flavor of the dance so to speak and then learn to move with it in a way that is not awkward. In dancing you wouldn't compare the tango and cha-cha and say that the tango is wrong, it's just new and different and you don't know all the moves. To move gracefully in another culture you must first understand it....just like learning a new dance you may step on a few toes, stumble through the steps at first but over time you learn, you improve, you dance and eventually (hopefully) you become graceful at it and then it becomes second nature. At first it requires much thought and concentration and is often a headache, but I look forward to the day when it is second nature and I can glide through the culture gracefully, knowing the moves, the flavor, the notes and dancing along.<br />
<br />
Today was a beautiful day of practicing my dance moves, stumbling much but improving all the more...today was a day for hope. Hope that one day I will learn the ways of this culture, one day I will appreciate all the facets of it, one day I will speak the language of this culture more fluidly and relationships can deepen, dancing can happen....looking forward to the one day and stumbling my way through the today!Queen Motherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17248581958484762442noreply@blogger.com0
